HEAVY

heavy heart

Woke up this morning with a heavy heart. I have been trying to steer clear of the news lately as the reality of our current climate is just hard to grapple with.

My deep sadness is for my friends, loved ones, and our collective communities of color, the stress and anxiety of walking through life is not something I will ever experience, their stress and anxiety never relents. Not only do #BlackLivesMatter, they are beautiful, complex, remarkable, fascinating, joyful, loving, special, unique, creative and so much more.

My deep sadness is for the families, friends, and loved ones of those who have lost someone to #COVID19. 100,000 people. 100,000 beautiful souls. 100,000 people who have made an impact on someone’s life. 100,000 people who did not have to die. Wearing a mask in public and social distancing is a sign of respect for those who have lost their battle with this disease. Show respect for others when you are out, it is the least we can do.

My deep sadness is for the 1 in 4 Americans who are currently unemployed or under-employed. #Unemployment means fear. It means uncertainty. The fear of not being able to pay bills or feed your family are real. This uncertainty has lasting effects and will be a long road to recovery for many.

My deep sadness is in many of our #government leaders, who have failed to take responsibility to ensure the safety of our communities. Leaders who have felt there is a necessity to move myopic legislation during this crisis or leaders who are attempting to block opportunities to vote, or leaders who are working to move forward policies that are not focused on helping all people, including those in most need, during this uncertain time. This self centered behavior needs to end.

If you had said to me as the ball dropped on New Years Eve 2019 that this year would turn out the way it has thus far, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Our nation needs leadership, we need to know the power of love, and we need to come together to heal from these nightmares that are realities for so many.
